Download videos on your mobile using the Offline feature for YouTube

For the first time Google has released a YouTube feature only for India, "Offline Viewing of Videos". In short you can now download YouTube videos and view them later. Update your YouTube app for Android mobiles. After starting the app, navigate to any YouTube video, just at the right side of Like and Dislike icon, there will be a new icon for download. I decided to try this feature by downloading the PK trailer Video.

After you click the download icon, videos will be saved to the internal app specific cache. Depending upon your device some storage space is allocated for offline video download. For my LG - G2, which is a 32 GB device, 2 GB was reserved for offline video download. Caution:  Don't try to search the video on your Mobile's file system, you won't find it. However you can view it via the YouTube app's offline videos option.

If you have downloaded HD videos using the offline feature, viewing it may result in an error "There was a problem while playing. Touch to retry.". To get rid of this error, you need to disable the "Only stream HD video on Wi-Fi" option. For this navigate to Settings -> General, Uncheck the option "Limit mobile data usage". Restart the YouTube app and now you can play offline HD videos even while you are not connected to Internet.
